Bag Care Guide
To extend the life of your bag you'll want to give it the care it deserves and clean it according to the materials it's made from. See the buttons below for the specific care for each fabric type.
Canvas
Spot Cleaning: Use a damp cloth with mild soap and water to gently clean the area. Avoid scrubbing as it may damage the fabric or cause discoloration.
Stain Removal: Treat stains immediately with a fabric stain remover or a mixture of baking soda and water. Test on an inconspicuous area first.
Waxed Canvas
Spot Cleaning Only: Never put waxed canvas in the washing machine. Use cold water and a sponge or brush to gently clean dirt or stains. Mild soap can be used for more stubborn spots.
Re-waxing: Over time, waxed canvas can lose its water-resistant coating. You can re-wax your bag using a specialized wax (like Otter Wax). Rub the wax evenly over the fabric and use a blow dryer to heat the wax for an even finish.
Avoid Heat: Keep waxed canvas away from heat sources such as radiators, as the wax can melt and affect the fabric's durability.
Vegan Leather/ Vinyl
Regular Cleaning: Wipe down the surface with a damp cloth and mild soap. Make sure to dry it completely with a soft cloth to avoid water damage or streaking.
Stain Removal: For tougher stains, use a small amount of rubbing alcohol or a specialized vinyl cleaner, but always test in a hidden spot first.
Avoid Overloading: Vegan leather can stretch or warp under excess weight, so avoid overloading your bag to maintain its shape.
Cork
- Wipe Clean: Cork is naturally water-resistant and easy to clean. Use a damp cloth with mild soap to wipe away dirt and stains. It has also been treated with Scotchgard and UV Protectants to add to its longevity.
- Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using harsh chemicals, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip away the natural oils that keep cork looking supple.
- Maintenance: Cork can crack if it becomes too dry. To prevent this, condition the material occasionally with a small amount of neutral leather conditioner or beeswax.
Leather
Regular Maintenance: Wipe down leather with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Use a leather conditioner periodically to keep the material soft and supple.
Avoid Water: Leather is not water-resistant, so be sure to protect your bag or strap from rain or spills. If the leather gets wet, blot it dry with a clean cloth.
